Fall Prevention Techniques

Do you ever wonder what will happen if you fall? Maybe it’s a worry that you carry around with you that keeps you from doing the activities you truly enjoy. This video will give you practical ways you can set up your home to decrease fall risk as well as methods to remain safe or get help if a fall does occur.

Lighting (0:14 - 2:37)

Light is one of the most important factors when it comes to fall risk. We use light for almost everything we do, including finding our way when navigating around our homes. That’s why we need to consider what may be the best possible lighting option. In this section I go over different types of lighting, as well as what to look for when choosing how to light a space.

Secondary Factors (2:38 - 3:56)

After lighting it’s important to consider other factors. In this section I go over what you may not have thought about yet, from decreasing clutter to energy conservation.

Personal Factors (3:57 - 4:48)

The last fall prevention factors I discuss are the internal factors. Knowing how medication and exercise may affect your risk for falling is key to avoiding injury.

What To Do If A Fall Occurs (4:49 - 6:06)

In this section I walk you through step by step how to respond if you fall, starting with keeping calm and ending with you safely on a firm piece of furniture.

What If I Can’t Get Up? (6:07 - 7:15)

Here we talk about options and safety measures to have in place in the event you do need help after a fall.

Follow-up (7:16-end)

Don’t forget, it’s important to figure out what caused the fall and how to avoid making the same mistake in the future. It’s also good to check in with your doctor in case of injury.
